Jeg inntar fartsvidunderet. Forventningene er spent til bristepunktet. Spenningen er til \u00e5 ta og f\u00f8le p\u00e5. I det maskineriet begynner \u00e5 rulle, kjenner jeg det knaker i leddene. Farten \u00f8ker raskt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeg er omgitt av st\u00e5l og metall p\u00e5 alle kanter. I \u00f8yekrokene noterer jeg meg kj\u00f8lig hvor kort avstand det faktisk er mellom liv og d\u00f8d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mitt<\/em> liv.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Og min <\/em>d\u00f8d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Men snart svikter sideblikket. Det g\u00e5r fortere og fortere. N\u00e5 m\u00e5 det fokuseres 100 prosent p\u00e5 det som ligger foran. Adrenalinet pumper ut sin sitrende skjelvende spenning i hver minste avkrok av kroppen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nei! Dette er r\u00e5tt! Hjelp! Her kommer en utvendig loop! Jeg vil aaaaaaaav …. au!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

San Andreas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Nei, dette er ikke en test av det nye speed-monsteret p\u00e5 Tusenfryd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Jeg speeder nemlig gratis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeg er syklist i Oslo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I stedet for loopene p\u00e5 speed-monsteret, m\u00f8ter jeg Oslo-gatene kast-i-kast formidlet av en nesten usynlig forsenkning som skr\u00e5r over veibanen, som en lokal San Andreas-forkastning i jordskorpa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

San Andreas sender meg sidelengs retning fronten av 37-bussen. Ikke s\u00e5 h\u00f8yt til v\u00e6rs og like raskt som p\u00e5 Tusenfryd, men til gjengjeld sykler jeg uten sikkerhetsbelte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Heldigvis, s\u00e5 mange ganger jeg har v\u00e6rt n\u00f8dt til \u00e5 evakuere sykkelen i fart i det en sykkelblind bilist finner det for godt \u00e5 krysse sykkelvei og fortau uten \u00e5 vurdere muligheten for syklister og fotgjengere p\u00e5 stedet.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For n\u00e5 har sn\u00f8en g\u00e5tt fra Oslo, og jeg har funnet fram min kj\u00e6re offroader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Her i hovedstaden i gamle, steinrike Norge nytter ikke noe annet enn offroadere. Skal du sykle p\u00e5 smale dekk, m\u00e5 du ut i distrikts-Norge, hvor de asfalterer veiene sine iblant.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siste sortering<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Syklister er absolutt siste sortering i Oslo-trafikken. Sykkelstier, i den grad de finnes, er muligens asfaltert et sted under all singelen som de str\u00f8dde i veibanen for bilene i vinter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(N\u00e5 som singelen ikke trengs for bilene lenger, er det jo det naturligste i verden \u00e5 sope det ut i sykkelstiene ved siden av.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under singelen er hullene i asfalten mange og livsfarlige.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Erfaringen har l\u00e6rt oss at det noen tror er en trygg ferdsels\u00e5re for tohjulte i virkeligheten er en utspekulert syklistfelle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ja, ofte (men slett ikke alltid) er sykkelveien bilfri. Til gjengjeld finner de som lager veier og slikt det gjerne for godt \u00e5 terminere sykkelstiene p\u00e5 m\u00e5f\u00e5, eller grave store, umerkede hull i dem, eller dekke dem med sn\u00f8en og grapset de m\u00e5ker bort fra den hellige bilveien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeg er ikke alene om \u00e5 klage p\u00e5 dette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Statsminister Jens Stoltenberg er enig med meg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Han lovte at det skulle bli orden p\u00e5 de h\u00e5pl\u00f8se sykkelveiene i Oslo da han s\u00f8kte stillingen som statsminister i h\u00f8st).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jens p\u00e5peker i Aftenposten: \u00abFlere steder slutter en sykkelsti midt i et farlig veikryss. Mange steder er det ikke ordentlige sykkelveier, det er bare malt en hvit stripe p\u00e5 veien slik at parkerte biler ofte st\u00e5r i veien, det blir jo bare helt feil.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Farlig gr\u00f8nt lys<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Det er ikke s\u00e5 ofte jeg er enig med Jens, men den uttalelsen kan jeg jammen stille meg bak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Etter en lang og farefull og halsbrekkende karri\u00e9re som syklist i denne byen er jeg et (fremdeles) (bank i bordet) levende vitnem\u00e5l om at her snakker Jens sant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Syklister er hatobjekt nummer \u00e9n b\u00e5de for bilister og fotgjengere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bilistene misunner oss fordi vi kommer raskere frem enn dem, og hater oss fordi vi snirkler oss mellom bilene og passerer krysset p\u00e5 r\u00f8dt lys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Det de ikke har forst\u00e5tt er at s\u00e5fremt det er klar bane, s\u00e5 er det tryggere \u00e5 sykle p\u00e5 r\u00f8dt lys enn p\u00e5 gr\u00f8nt. N\u00e5r du sitter der p\u00e5 en meter sykkelsti malt opp med glade hvite striper ved siden av kj\u00f8rebanen, og alle bilene, trailerne og bussene og – verst av alt – trikken – f\u00e5r gr\u00f8nt lys, s\u00e5 er det siste stedet du \u00f8nsker \u00e5 v\u00e6re midt i blant dem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Det er antagelig de samme menneskene som lager sykkelstier som har programmert de s\u00e5kalte \u00abgr\u00f8nne b\u00f8lgene\u00bb i trafikklysene. De er gr\u00f8nne dersom du kj\u00f8rer bil og gasser p\u00e5 s\u00e5nn at du kj\u00f8rer 5-10 km raskere enn fartsgrensen. Det vet erfarne bilister, og gir full pinne n\u00e5r lyset blir gr\u00f8nt. Hvis ikke blir neste lys r\u00f8dt akkurat i det de kommer. Dette gj\u00f8r det ikke mindre farlig \u00e5 sykle p\u00e5 gr\u00f8nt.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En lek med d\u00f8den<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Men desperate bilister er en ting. De digre to-leddete bussene er verre. M\u00f8ter du en av dem, s\u00e5 forhold deg til den som du ville forholdt deg til en Tyrannosaurus Rex:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Skygg banen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For st\u00e5r det en buss p\u00e5 bussholdeplassen og du sykler forbi den, kan du vedde p\u00e5 at etter \u00e5 ha passert 20 meter buss, blinker den ut til venstre og kj\u00f8rer, helt uten hensyn til hva som m\u00e5tte befinne seg ved dens side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Men verst av alt er trikken. Trikkef\u00f8rere som ikke kan kj\u00f8re rundt feilparkerte biler og s\u00e5nn, men m\u00e5 holde seg p\u00e5 skinner, de er nok ofte sv\u00e6rt sinte og gretne n\u00e5r dagen g\u00e5r mot slutten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aggresjonen tar de kanskje ut p\u00e5 andre trafikanter, og syklister er nok ogs\u00e5 her en favoritt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Derfor er enkelte veier som deler tras\u00e9 med trikken en lek med d\u00f8den.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sykler du for eksempel over rundkj\u00f8ringen ved Bislett og videre oppover Theresesgate er du fanget i en kilometerlang trikkefelle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Det er trikkeskinner i hver retning, og du har kanskje 50-60 cm klaring mellom trikkeskinnen og en fortauskant som er 20-30 centimeter h\u00f8y. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abP\u00e5 vei opp Theresesgate … blir minnene om den gang du l\u00f8p oksel\u00f8pet i Pamplona en fjern og koselig dr\u00f8m\u00bb<\/div>\n\n\n\n

N\u00e5r du strever deg oppover bakken og med et hugg av angst i brystet h\u00f8rer den karakteristiske summingen av trikken et stykke bak deg, blir minnene om den gang du l\u00f8p oksel\u00f8pet i Pamplona en fjern og koselig dr\u00f8m.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gi meg heller 10.000 okser enn \u00e9n trikk p\u00e5 vei til Riskhospitalet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Det finnes bare \u00e9n l\u00f8sning: Sykle alt hva remmer og t\u00f8y kan holde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bare pass p\u00e5 \u00e5 ikke komme for n\u00e6re de superglatte trikkeskinnene, eller hullene frosten har lagd rundt dem i l\u00f8pet av vinteren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trikkens n\u00e5del\u00f8se jakt p\u00e5 syklister i Theresesgate er en av grunnene til at det \u00e5 sykle p\u00e5 r\u00f8dt her i Oslo simpelthen er en overlevelsesstrategi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her er r\u00f8dt lyst betydelig tryggere enn alternativet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
