Uttrykket “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”<\/em> har f\u00e5tt en ny mening for meg. Sist jeg var hos legen, foreskrev han nemlig en iPhone app.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Som mange menn, kjenner jeg sjelden behov for \u00e5 g\u00e5 til legen. Jeg virker omtrent som jeg skal, s\u00e5 hvorfor dra til verkstedet?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

P\u00e5 den annen side setter jeg iblant bilen inn til service, selv om det ikke er noe \u00e5penbart galt med den. Siden jeg gjerne vil behandle meg selv like godt – eller helst bedre – enn jeg behandler bilen min, tar jeg derfor et legebes\u00f8k s\u00e5nn rundt hver 10.000 kilometer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

P\u00e5 siste service hos fastlegen, var resultatet det samme som f\u00f8r: Pasienten er frisk og rask og s\u00e5nn noenlunde lykkelig, veier ikke for mye, ikke for lite, og i fin fysisk form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Underlig nok kjentes det et \u00f8yeblikk som en nedtur. Jeg tenkte p\u00e5 alle de skr\u00f8pelige menneskene jeg hadde  sl\u00e5tt i hjel ventetiden sammen med i venterommet, og kjente p\u00e5 at egentlig ikke hadde noe der \u00e5 gj\u00f8re. Jeg fikk rett og slett litt d\u00e5rlig samvittighet for \u00e5 v\u00e6re helt frisk og likevel ta av helsevesenets begrensede, men verdifulle kapasitet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

For ikke \u00e5 f\u00f8le at jeg kastet bort legens, de andre pasientene og min tid, lette jeg derfor litt panisk etter noe \u00e5 klage p\u00e5. S\u00e5 kom jeg p\u00e5 at jo, jeg sliter faktisk litt med nattes\u00f8vnen. Ikke det at jeg ikke sover godt, for det gj\u00f8r jeg virkelig. Snarere handler det om at jeg sover for <\/em>godt, til de grader at jeg med jevne mellomrom gjennom natten slutter \u00e5 puste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apn\u00e9 <\/a>kalles det p\u00e5 fagspr\u00e5ket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Apn\u00e9 er egentlig ganske gufne greier. Ofte n\u00e5r jeg tenker p\u00e5 apn\u00e9, dukker det franske uttrykket la petite mort<\/em><\/a>. Men det er en misforst\u00e5else, den lille d\u00f8d handler ikke om s\u00f8vn, selv om det ogs\u00e5 er knyttet til en aktivitet som ofte henlegges til sengen.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeg trodde dette hadde g\u00e5tt over etter at jeg la om livsstilen for ti \u00e5r siden, men har i det siste undret meg p\u00e5 om det er kommet tilbake. Det rapporteres nemlig fra den andre enden av dobbeltsengen at jeg – som aldri har v\u00e6rt s\u00e6rlig interessert i fotball – sparker kraftig fra meg om natten. Bokstavlig talt. Umotivert og plutselig, som et skudd i natten, setter jeg inn mine straffespark under dyna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

N\u00e5vel, det var ingen stor sak, men det var et dugelig halmstr\u00e5 for en ellers velstelt og frisk fyr som meg, s\u00e5 jeg grep det. Forsiktig luftet jeg for min fastlege tanken om det kanskje er en sammenheng mellom de to fenomenene. Er sparkene et utslag av oksygenmangel, og betyr det at jeg fremdeles holder pusten nattestid?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Legen grublet litt over dette. Jeg vet at man vanligvis stilt overfor mulig apn\u00e9 gjerne anbefaler en natt p\u00e5 en s\u00f8vnlab. Men d\u00e9t er et stort prosjekt, og tar tid og krefter, og sp\u00f8rsm\u00e5let er om problemet er stort nok til at det er verdt innsatsen. Min fastlege fanget opp signalene, og praktisk som han er, lette han etter melloml\u00f8sninger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Har du iPhone?, spurte han og s\u00e5 intenst p\u00e5 meg. En flamme var tent i \u00f8ynene hans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeg bekreftet at det har jeg, og ventet spent p\u00e5 fortsettelsen. N\u00e5 begynte jeg \u00e5 ane hvor dette bar, og kjente at jeg ble varmere om hjertet. En gadget-freak<\/a> kjenner en annen n\u00e5r han ser ham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Legen logget denne basisinformasjonen om mine teknologiske rammebetingelser p\u00e5 PC’en sin, og snudde seg mot meg igjen. Lyset i \u00f8ynene gl\u00f8det sterkere i det han foreskrev sin medisin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Sleep Cycle, sa han.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeg s\u00e5 nok litt forvirret ut, s\u00e5 han forklarte n\u00e6rmere:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sleep Cycle<\/a> er et program som bruker bevegelsessensoren i iPhone til \u00e5 m\u00e5le bevegelsesm\u00f8nsteret ditt gjennom natten. P\u00e5 den m\u00e5ten f\u00e5r du en oversikt over hvordan du har sovet: N\u00e5r du har v\u00e6rt i dyp s\u00f8vn, n\u00e5r du har dr\u00f8mt, og n\u00e5r du har v\u00e6rt mer eller mindre v\u00e5ken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senere har jeg l\u00e6rt at programmet egentlig er laget for \u00e5 kunne vekke deg n\u00e5r du sover som lettest. Setter du alarmen til \u00e5 ringe klokka sju, vekker den deg inntil en halvtime f\u00f8r, avhengig av hvilken s\u00f8vnfase du befinner deg i. Brukere rapporterer at de ved hjelp av dette programmet blir vekket p\u00e5 en mye mer behagelig m\u00e5te, n\u00e5r kroppen og hodet er mest mulig klar for det.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Et nyttig biprodukt er grafen som viser hvordan du har sovet, n\u00e5r du sovnet og n\u00e5r du v\u00e5knet, og hvor lenge du sov. Det viser n\u00e5r du har v\u00e6rt i dyp, dr\u00f8mmel\u00f8s s\u00f8vn, n\u00e5r du har dr\u00f8mt og n\u00e5r du har v\u00e6rt og vaket like oppunder overflatetn til den v\u00e5kne verden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeg var solgt, og medisinen kom helt uten resept. Mens jeg ventet p\u00e5 \u00e5 ta blodpr\u00f8ve lastet jeg ned programmet. Det kostet kroner 6, og var definitivt den minste kostnaden ved dagens legebes\u00f8k.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siden da har min iPhone og jeg utviklet v\u00e5rt forhold, og vi deler n\u00e5 seng. iPhone ligger under lakenet i hj\u00f8rnet av madrassen, mens jeg fremdeles ligger opp\u00e5 lakenet, og jeg breier meg nok ogs\u00e5 litt mer enn den. Hver morgen vekker min nye sengekamerat meg forsiktig, og avlegger deretter rapport om hvordan natten har forl\u00f8pt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Dessverre sier den ingenting om straffesparkene og langt mindre om jeg scorer m\u00e5l p\u00e5 noen av dem.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sover jeg annerledes p\u00e5 grunn av dette? Nei, si det. Litt mer bevisst, kanskje. Litt mer informert om hva jeg bedrev i natt. Vi tilbringer jo bortimot en tredjedel av livet v\u00e5rt i sengen, men vi vet sv\u00e6rt lite om denne delen av v\u00e5re liv. S\u00f8vn og helse henger jo tett sammen, og for meg blir det et lite innblikk i en verden jeg bor i og som betyr mye for meg, men som jeg ikke kjenner. Det gir meg et snev av bevissthet omkring denne ellers noks\u00e5 ubevisste siden av livet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Og s\u00e5 er det jo litt fancy da. Man lar seg gjerne begeistre over kreative nye bruksomr\u00e5der for disse telefoniske dingsene v\u00e5re, en gang i tiden antatt \u00e5 v\u00e6re ment til \u00e5 snakke i.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Men det l\u00f8ser ikke apn\u00e9-sp\u00f8rsm\u00e5let, for enn\u00e5 m\u00e5ler ikke telefonen oksygeninnholdet i blodet. S\u00e5 den st\u00f8rste verdien i Sleep Cycle ligger nok fremdeles i hvordan jeg v\u00e5kner, ikke hvordan jeg sovner. Det at den vekker deg n\u00e5r du nesten er v\u00e5ken likevel, er et omsorgsaspekt som ikke skal undervurderes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Og hvis en Apple om natten p\u00e5 noen m\u00e5te kan bidra til at legen f\u00e5r enda mindre \u00e5 gj\u00f8re p\u00e5 neste 10.000-kilometerservice, s\u00e5 er det verdt sine seks kroner og vel s\u00e5 det.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
